Summer bites and other wounds

By Carol Harblin (CHHC)

Ouch! Argh!

Summer time is a time when we are very much exposed to the elements. It doesn't matter how old you are, you will find yourself with a scrape or a gash or a bug bite on your skin.

What's a good natural remedy for wound care? or even a bug bite?

Bug bites or stings are a pitta irritation to the skin. How do we pacify this irritation with Ayurvedic means?

  • Drink Coconut Water - Coconut is a very good source for antihistamines and for natural steroids.
  • Apply Neem oil or Neem paste to the site of the irritation. Leave it on the site for ~20 minutes then rinse it off. Neem oil may also be applied to the skin as an insect repellent. It is used in India and other parts of the world. Just apply to skin before going outside.

Among other natural remedies, turmeric paste may also feel soothing as well. You may also apply turmeric powder right on the site also.

Aloe Vera (from the plant itself) may also be applied to the site. Aloe vera is very pacifying to pitta skin imbalances, even sun burns.
