Is it possible to eat healthier food in airports? It is if you look beyond the surface.
Walking through the corridors of any airport you will find fast food joints like McDonalds or Pizza Hut, and many will be tantalized by the familiar aroma. But, where is the healthy stuff? Well, if you don't mind spending money or if you have over an hour to burn, there are restaurants like Pizzeria Uno.
But what if you don't have the extra money?
You could go to the gift shops and find some trail mix or some other healthy snack. You can always snack on something light and eat your meal when you get to your destination.
I was recently at an airport waiting for my flight, and I saw a few people munching on McDonalds food. They didn't even look satisfied. They appeared to be eating for the sake of eating.
Think about the food that goes passed your lips. You don't want to be dissatisfied with anything you eat. Be aware of what your choices are and find something that you feel will hold you over.
Just because you are traveling and away from your home, doesn't mean you can go on a food vacation and eat anything that you see.
You want to enjoy the food you eat and the food to love you back.

Most airports are devoid of healthy food choices. There are a few exceptions, like the new Jet Blue terminal in JFK, which has a great salad bar and natural foods store. But it raises a larger issue...why is air travel and bad food so intrinsically connected? Even on the plane. Think of the best inflight meal you've ever had. Now tell me that if you got the same meal in a restaurant you wouldn't send it back! We have been conditioned to have lower expectations regarding both flavor and health when it comes to travel food. My advice. Keep it simple. Pack a few apples and some nuts. Most flights are only a few hours. Trust me, you won't starve.
